Specialized are doing their popular helmet amnesty again. Specialized run this scheme every few years. You can get 40% off a new Specialized helmet when you trade in an old helmet from any brand.
Helmets do deteriorate over time and gradually lose some of their integrity. This is commonly due to UV exposure. Minor knocks when helmets get transported in your car, accidentally dropped at the cafe or in minor crashes can also cause damage. Technology also moves on, and in recent years we have seen new safety features like MIPS becoming standard. It is often recommended that cycling helmets should be replaced every 5 years or so.
Specialized helmets topped the rankings in the Virginia Tech safety ratings this year. Their Mode helmet was rated as the safest urban cycling helmet and the Tactic 4 was rated the safest mountain bike helmet. The Align helmet (which sells for just £45) was rated in the top 5 for urban, road and mountain bike use. All of the Specialized helmets are now unisex and come in a range of colours.
How does the amnesty work?
The Specialized Helmet Amnesty is a pretty simple scheme:
- Take your old cycling helmet into any Cycles UK store before 7th March 2022
- Pick a new Specialized helmet from the ones we have in stock
- Get 40% off your new Specialized helmet
- The straps on your old helmet will be cut so it can’t be used and it goes in the bin
