The rolling hills of the Treviso region in Italy provided the picturesque backdrop for my first ride aboard the Pinarello Dogma X, the latest offering from the renowned Italian bicycle manufacturer. Featuring a new more relaxed Endurance+ geometry, with slightly shorter stack and reach numbers and the striking X seat stay bridge I was keen to see how it would compare to the Dogma F. As we set out on this 80 mile loop, I couldn’t help but admire the sleek lines and striking design of the Dogma X, but the real test awaited on the winding roads between Treviso, the home of Pinarello and the foothills of the Dolomites.

You can’t help but smile when riding through Italian vineyards!

Comfort in the Saddle:

One of the first things that struck me about the Dogma X was its balance between performance and comfort. The T1100K carbon frame, with X-Stays, a new technology from Pinarello, is capable of absorbing vibration without sacrificing on frame weight or BB stiffness. The X-shaped insert increases lateral stiffness to compensate for the elongation of the chain stays, keeping the reactiveness we have come to expect from Pinarello. Treviso’s undulating roads allowed me to truly appreciate the Dogma X’s comfort, as it soaked up road imperfections.

Pinarello provided 400 Dogma X bikes for dealers from across the world to ride.

We took the first 50k to Cantina Fasol Menin Winery at a leisurely pace, soaking up the stunning scenery and hearing stories from legends of the sport, including Tour de France stage winner Eros Poli who rode to a famous victory atop Mont Ventoux. After some Aperitif and local snacks we then had the opportunity to push the pace and really test the Dogma X. Matteo Tossatto, a former Tour de France and Giro d’Italia stage winner and now a directeur sportif for INEOS Grenadiers set the pace in the INEOS team car. This section let us really test the bikes, with steep climbs and technical descents to push the bike on. The Dogma X took these in it’s stride thanks to the responsive and confidence inspiring geometry and with a handful of Strava Top 10’s it’s certainly a rapid bike! On the flat run in to Treviso the pace crept up and our group was soon swapping turns at 40-45kmh. The bike felt very stable rolling through the group, and with only a minor penalty in aerodynamics over the Dogma F, it strikes the perfect balance between comfort and speed.

Dogma X with Dura Ace Di2 and Princeton Carbonworks Grit 4540

Build kit and specs:

As you would expect with a top end bike, it comes specced with the best components. Our test Dogma X came equipped with the top-tier Shimano Dura Ace Di2 electronic groupset. The precision and consistency of Di2 shifting were immediately apparent, ensuring seamless gear changes even under load. Climbing steep ascents or accelerating on flat stretches was a breeze, thanks to the precise and lightning-fast shifts. The braking performance was even more impressive however, offering great modulation and excellent stopping power. Shimano’s Di2 groupset, with its cutting-edge technology, enhances the overall riding experience of the Dogma X, making it a true joy to ride in all situations.

The Princeton Carbonworks Grit 4540 wheelset is a key component that elevates the Dogma X’s performance to another level. The carbon rims are not only lightweight but also aerodynamically optimized, providing a noticeable boost in speed and efficiency. Laced to Tune hubs the wheels were very quick rolling, The Dogma X felt incredibly responsive when I pushed the pedals harder, and the wheels seemed to cut through the wind effortlessly. Cornering on descents was precise and confidence-inspiring, with the wheelset maintaining stability even at high speeds. They were shod with 32mm GP5000 S TR tires from Continental. As someone who normally rides 28mm tires I was keen to see how the jump in size would affect the bikes speed and handling. Th wide rims coupled with the wider tires certainly help add to the comfort.

It was an honour to meet Fausto Pinarello!

Summary:

In conclusion, the Pinarello Dogma X delivers an extraordinary riding experience that blends comfort, precision, and performance seamlessly. Riding through the picturesque Treviso region of Italy was a testament to its capabilities. Whether you’re an avid cyclist looking to conquer challenging terrain or simply seeking an enjoyable and comfortable, yet still fast and responsive ride, the Dogma X is a superb choice.

The Dogma X has the legendary Pinarello handling making descending a dream.
