BOSCH REVEAL SOME GREAT UPGRADES FOR THEIR EBIKE PARTNERS

Bosch 625 PowerTube Battery

Until now the largest capacity battery offered by Bosch has been 500Wh. This came in all formats: Rack, Frame and in frame PowerTube designs.

For 2020 models Bosch have announced a 625Wh battery. This will only be available in the PowerTube format.

Bosch Dual Battery Compatible?

Yes this battery can be doubled up with another 625. This gives a maximum dual battery capacity of 1.25Kwh = huge!

New Bosch Performance Line CX Motor

What’s really interesting here is that Bosch claim up to 340% assistance up from 300% on the current CX motor while still offering 75Nm of torque. This is interesting because it infers that the ride data of millions of Bosch customers (gathered during firmware updates) indicates that the way the power is accessed and integrated into the ride matters more than accessing a higher total power. The power is similar but the message Bosch wish to deliver is that their system delivers that power instantly, smoothly, as expected, when you need it and doing this demands, at times, a higher promotional boost.

That natural feeling already separates Bosch from the alternatives and it looks like they wish to push that further and give you the feeling of stronger legs rather than a motor. ‘My legs are made by Bosch, lets race’ 🙂

CX Motor Disengaging

Having tested a different gear design on the 2019 Activeline motors Bosch have followed the design principles to make the new Performance line CX smaller, lighter and quieter. It also totally disengages when you need it to so the ride feels more natural when the motor is not in use.

There is support for a wider cadence repertoire which many riders will be happy to see.

The Q-Factor is reduced which is good for eMTB use.

Particularly during electric mountain biking the power of eBike motors has been a bit overwhelming on very steep inclines causing riders to pop the front wheel when they really….really don’t want to. Bosch claim to have solved this problem with the intelligent power delivery of their system. Welcome news.

eSuspension with Fox

I love the opportunities you get with new technology to invent new words by adding and ‘i’ or more relevantly an ‘e’ to boring old words. Suspension pfah! I’ve got eSUSPENSION. Actually Rockshox release electronically linked intelligent suspension on Haibike AllMtn RC in 2015. It was fantastic. The rear shock received signals from the front shock so it knew how to respond to the terrain ahead. Now that Fox have actually worked with Bosch to deeply integrate the technology I am very excited for you eMountain bikers out there.
