Comfort-Cycling-eBike

The theme of Bike Week is health and wellbeing, 30 May to 5 June 2021.

Cycling is a fantastic way to keep fit and active, boost immunity, and improve your wellbeing. This year Cycling UK is launching with the World’s Biggest Bike Ride. You can take part in the virtual #7daysofcycling challenge, giving you a brilliant way to reunite with your friends and family in the great outdoors and get inspired by exciting challenges and routes.

The most important thing is to get some exercise and have lots of fun.

Cycling is fun, healthy and a low-impact form of exercise suitable for all ages. Riding a bike is easy to fit into your daily routine by cycling to the shops, park, school or work.

Did you know?

  • Regularly cycling to work can lower your risk of developing cancer by 45%, a 46% lower risk of cardiovascular disease and help protect you from serious diseases such as stroke, heart attack, diabetes, obesity and arthritis.
  • By cycling regularly in adulthood, you will enjoy a fitness level equivalent to someone ten years younger.
  • Mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety, and depression can be reduced by regular cycling due to the positive effects of exercise and because of the sheer enjoyment biking can bring.

Thousands of people took part in Bike Week last year, and we’ve seen a massive increase in the number of people riding cycling since the start of the pandemic.

One question we get asked all the time: Can I still get a workout on an electric bike? Well, let’s ask the experts. In recent studies conducted by Brighamham Young University (BYU), the researchers compared the cardiovascular benefits of riding eBikes and regular bikes on a 6-mile test loop. They found the cyclists reached the upper half of the vigorous-intensity zone for target heart rate on both the e-mountain bikes and the conventional mountain bikes. So, in other words, E-bikes provide intense exercise, but it doesn’t feel like a workout.
