Raleigh Motus Range Guide

The Raleigh Motus has been one of our top selling electric bikes for the last few years. They are practical and easy to use traditional style bikes. The Raleigh Motus can be used for running errands, commuting or weekend cycling trips. For 2022 Raleigh have re-designed the Motus with a big emphasis both style and reliability.

There are 4 main bikes in the Raleigh Motus range but each of them comes with a few different options do there are around a dozen different models to pick from. This choice includes the type of gears you want, the style of frame, colour and specification level.

Hub or Derailleur Gears

Most of the Motus bikes come with the choice of either an internal hub gear system or an external derailleur gear system. The internal hubs tuck everything away inside the rear hub so there are fewer moving parts on show. Because they are sealed away hub gears will typically stand up better to constant use in wet weather. This is why they are the standard choice for Dutch style shopping bikes. The downside of the internal hub gears is that if they go wrong they are generally a bit more complicated and expensive to fix. The external derailleur gears are used on most modern road, hybrid and mountain bikes so parts are very easily available and they are cheaper and easier to repair.

So if you think you will be riding daily in wet weather the internal hub gear is a better choice. For more occasional use the derailleur gears can be easier to live with long term.

Low Step or Cross Bar

With the Motus you get a choice of low step or cross bar frame styles. Many people think of these as men’s or women’s bikes but they are unisex. We sell a lot of the Low Step frames to men. In particular we sell them to older men who have mobility issues as the Low Step bikes are easier to get on and off.

 Raleigh Motus – £2199

The entry level bike is simply called the Motus and just comes with derailleur gears. It is available as either a low step or crossbar frame.

As the entry level bike in the Motus range the standard Motus comes with an external battery whereas the rest of the range uses internal batteries. It also has the smallest battery capacity at 400wh which Raleigh say is good for about 80 miles or riding. Although it is the base model the Motus still comes with the latest generation Bosch Active Line motor. Mudguards, a rack and kickstand complete the build.

Raleigh Motus Tour Hub and Derailleur Gear – £2499 or £2599

The Motus Tour comes as either a hub gear or derailleur gear bike. The derailleur gear bike is cheaper at £2499 and the hub gear bike is £2599. Both are available as low step or cross bar bikes and the derailleur gear version also comes in several colours.

The Motus Tour comes with the same Bosch Active Line motor and 400wh battery as the entry level bike but the battery is integrated into the frame rather than being externally mounted. It also has a more sophisticated Bosch Intuvia display.

Like the entry level bike the Motus Tour comes with mudguards, a pannier rack and kickstand but you also get integrated front and rear lights.

Raleigh Motus Tour Plus Hub and Derailleur Gear – £2395 or £2495

The Motus Tour Plus gets it’s name because it uses the Bosch Active Line Plus motor rather than the standard Active Line fitted to the Motus Tour bikes. This gives you a little extra power for getting up the hills. It still has an internally mounted 400wh battery like the Motus Tour and comes with mudguards, rack and lights.

The Motus Tour Plus was originally an interim model produced between the 2021 and 2022 range. As such it just comes in a single colour and only as a low step frame. The derailleur gear bike is £2395 and the hub gear bike is £2495.

Raleigh Motus Grand Tour – £2699 or £2799

The Motus Grand Tour comes with the same Active Line motor as the Tour but has a 500wh battery instead of 400wh. This boosts the maximum range up to 100 miles from 80 miles. As well as the extra range you also get some extra touches including an improved rear rack and a frame lock so you can secure the back wheel on short stops.

As with the other bikes there are low step and crossbar versions. The Derailleur gear bike is £2699 and the hub gear bike is £2799.
